Interpreting the French Revolution Tale of Two Cities by...
In the novel A Tale of Two Cities, the author Charles Dickens explains to us, the readers, how he interpreted the French Revolution including his thoughts and concerns for the time period. This period is referring to the 18th century when the uprisings began. In this violence, groups of people were brought together to stir up havoc among the cities. Charles uses the common parallels of the two cities to bring them together as one. By using his paradoxes just as he started the story, he brings two places who may have been thought to be different, one. Dickens adds his emotion in the novel through his characters that he has created. Moving towards the French Revolution that Dickens knew was not far in the near future, he began to configure what other countries would have made of the same idea. This uprising; one that may not be controllable. Quickly coming across the sister city of Paris, London was not too far. He would come to figure that these two cities are separate tales to the sa me story. His depth to the Revolution begins at this point. Of course as I say this, Dickens does not write out the Revolution for the reader, he implicates the effect of it through his book. Dickens to me may be that man who answers a question with a question, at least thats what I get from reading this book. This attraction of giving his own twist to the French Revolution and how the two cities dealt with a somewhat similar problem. He wants it to be evident that these two cities could faceShow MoreRelated A Tale Of Two Cities: Sydney Carton Vs. Macbeth Theme Free Essays
One of the most fascinating ways in which Shakespeare explores the theme of appearance and reality is through the characters of the witches. The witches bring with them confusion, which infects the natural order. Night becomes day. We will write a custom essay sample on Macbeth Theme or any similar topic only for you Order Now Duncanââ¬â¢s horses eat each other, Fair is foul, and foul is fair. This quote is fairly early in the text, and sets the tone for the rest of the play. It alludes to the deceptive nature of the play, referring to the idea that things are not always as they seem. The quote itself foreshadows the apparent sinister and deceitful nature of the play, in that it brings forth the idea that things that seem fair, good and true may well in fact be evil or foul. Likewise, things that appear evil may possess elements of good in them. This quote is a key component of the play, as the play itself centres around the idea of deception and that what appears on the outside is not always a true reflection of what lies beneath,. the course of the play, they lead to greater confusion in Macbethââ¬â¢s mind. They seem to promise him good things, but his life subsequently begins to deteriorate. On the night of the murder, Macbeth sees a floating dagger, but can not decide if this ââ¬Å"air-drawn daggerâ⬠is real or a figment of his imagination proceeding from his ââ¬Å"heat-oppressed brainâ⬠. His confusion between what is real and what is not seems to increase as the witchesââ¬â¢ influence over Macbeth grows. As Macbethââ¬â¢s actions become more tyrannical and savage, the strain of hiding their (Macbeth and Lady Macbethââ¬â¢s) true nature surfaces. The pair quickly begins to lose their grip on reality. Following Banquoââ¬â¢s murder, Macbeth sees his ghost at the feast. Macbeth has lost the ability to differentiate between appearance and reality. The cause behind Macbethââ¬â¢s murder of Banquo was his inability to accept anything at face-value. Macbeth turns to the witches when he begins to become ââ¬Å"cribbââ¬â¢d and confinedâ⬠. These are the very ââ¬Å"hagsâ⬠behind Macbethââ¬â¢s original confusion. They very quickly bring Macbeth into a state of mind where he becomes totally disconnected from reality. He takes the witches apparitions and predictions literally, believing that he is safe from any harm. The prediction that Macbeth will be safe until ââ¬Å"Birnam Wood reaches Dunsinaneâ⬠appears to indicate that he will not be threatened any time in the near future. In reality, it is showing him his impending downfall. It is at this stage that the forces of good come together and travel to Scotland to overthrow Macbeth. As the tide turns on Macbeth, the king and queen become more disillusioned and reach the brink of insanity. Suffering from memories of the murder, Lady Macbeth is unable to make a distinction between reality and fantasy. In her panicked state, she takes her own life. Meanwhile, Macbeth is forced to acknowledge that the witches ââ¬Å"lie like truthâ⬠. They have equivocated. Macbeth is at this stage ready to see the world for what it is, not for what he wishes it to be. The play Macbeth is undoubtedly a very shocking and disturbing play. In the course of the play, the boundaries between reality and appearance are in a constant state of flux. As a result, very little is as it seems in the play. The characters are regularly concealing their true natures and their true ambitions and desires. How to cite Macbeth Theme, Papers

Generation X, Less Happy, Why Essay Example For Students
Generation X, Less Happy, Why? Essay Generation X, Less Happy, Why?Nowadays divorce is so common its hard for people to try hard, fightthrough their problems and make a marriage last when theres such an easy wayout, divorce. Marriages of earlier generations were sometimes happier, becausedivorce wasnt the immediate anecdote to family or marital problems. I come tothis conclusion from hearing about my moms childhood. My grandparents have stayed together to this day regardless of theirproblems which made my moms childhood happier. One incident which illuminatesmy moms childhood being happier is when my grandpa had to take care of the kidsbecause my grandmother was in the hospital. It was great for my mom to have herown father take care of them instead of being left with an aunt or a closefamily friend. My grandmother was told shed be in the hospital for a couple of weeks ,it ended up being three. This was the first time she was separated from herchildren, and the first time my grandpa, the businessman, had to take care ofthe house and kids. All the household duties changed and it was hectic, mygrandpa had to take on the mother role. He had to make breakfast for the kids, pack their lunches, go grocery shopping, help with homework and take the kids toschool. My mom who was only nine was the only girl so they made her make thebeds and clear the table. Those three weeks were hell, for all of them. For mygrandpa it was difficult to take care of everything and work over forty hours aweek. For the children it was hard to be separated from mom. All mygrandmother did was worry the whole time about the kids, the house and mygrandpa probably having a nervous breakdown. It was very difficult, but this incident brought all of them closer, ina way. My grandmother missed her family as much as they missed her. My mom anduncles also became a lot closer to my grandfather. Overall this experienceshowed my grandparents how much they loved, missed, and needed each other but itwas better when they handled things together and then they knew they made theright decision by staying together. This experience, in a way, showed them whatit would be like if they were divorced or separated, lonely, sad, and veryunpleasant. Maybe divorce wouldnt have been as bad as they thought but Imglad they thought that way for my moms sake and my own. It may be naive but inthe end it opened their eyes and my mom thinks her childhood was happier becauseof it, and I believe her. In conclusion, earlier generations may have thought divorce was a crimeand may not have known as much as we do but if they were happier like that maybewe should have never learned.

Ishmael Beahââ¬â¢s Families free essay sample
Familys in a childs life has the most impact on them. It shows them how to grow up and who to trust. In the book ââ¬Å"A Long Way Homeâ⬠by Ismael Beah, is a true memoir about a boy named Ismael Beah who grows up with many struggles and no family. He was only about twelve years old when he was performing at a rap group and his village was attacked by the Civil War in Sierra Leone leaving him and his group of friends homeless without their families. While they are alone they struggle finding food and a shelter in different villages. While Ishmael isà looking for his family in different villages, he is captured by Lieutenant Jabati which turns him into a boy soldier killing innocent people and making him addicted to drugs. He is then found by UNICEF which puts him in rehab to help him find a future and fix what has happened to him in the past. We will write a custom essay sample on Ishmael Beahââ¬â¢s Families or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page But it was not easy for him to express himself, until he finds a nurse named Esther who helps him express himself by giving him a walkman with rap; which helped him express what has happened in his past. He is then welcomed to live with his Uncle Tommy in Sierra Leone, who is his next new father figure. He is then more confident about himself and shares his storys with the United Nations in New York. Which helps him meet his foster mom named Laura Simms who helps brighten up his future and moves then lets him move to the United States with her. Ishmael then later returns to Freetown, Sierra Leone to live with Uncle Tommy again and while he is there the Civil War returns. His Uncle Tommys dies and then Ishmael moves back to the United States to live a new life. While Ishmael was growing up he never really had a real family. But he had many people to replace being in his own family, who gave shelter and trust. The people who played a role were Lieutenant Jabati, Esther, Uncle Tommy, and Laura Simms. If Ishmael had grown up with a family he would have probably been shaped very different then having to go through the suffering he had gone through. And Ishmael would have learned better things growing up with a family. During Ishmaels struggle he finds a family figure which keeps him surving with not much help. The first person to play a role as a family member is The Army Lietenant. He was found toà be a father figure to Ishmael because he teaches him to be a soldier by brainwashing him with drugs. In the book it says, ââ¬Å" The boys and the other soldiers who were the audience clapped I was given the rank of junior lieutenant. We celebrated that dayââ¬â¢s achievment with more drugs.. â⬠(125). Also he had felt as a father figure because just like his father before he had past away the Lieutenant loved shakespeare. Another big point was that while he was a boy soldier and before that he had lost lots of friends which had made him put all his trust into the Lieutenant. Another point is that he had always called all the shots and this made him give respect. His last example is that he had erased Ishmaels name and turned it into ââ¬Å"Green Snakeâ⬠which makes Ishmael fell like he had created a new person and the old him was gone. All of these things had made Ishmael look up to the Lieutenant as a huge father figure but when the Lietenant had let him go to UNICEF he had felt very sad and betrayed. Another family figure which Ishmael finds during his struggle and finding out who he is was is his nurse Esther. Esther is a huge part which helps him survive becuase she buys him aà walkman. The music is helping him heal and is helping him get through his migraines from the drugs that the Lieutenant made him use and the hurtful memories he had. While letting out his emotion with Esther he is saving himseld from himself because if he had not let out his memories the pain would stay with in him. Even though it was hard for Ishmael to trust someone after being betrayed by the Lieutenant he had for the first time again. It was easy for him because Esther had made him feel as him she was his mother or sister by helping him feel love and beingà around the same age as him. The third person who had Ishmael been a family figure to Ishmael was his Uncle Tommy who he had looked up to as a father figure. His Uncle Tommy started to visit him every weekened and started gaining trust. When he was let out of rehab Uncle Tommy took him in like a son. The reason why he had been a huge help because many people had known about his past and did not want to take Ishmael in to there house knowing he had been through a lot and could snap but his uncle tommy had looked beside that and wanted to give him a future. His Uncle Tommy wanted to give him love, acceptance, and wanted Ishmael to be a child again like he couldnt be. In the book it says ââ¬Å"all I could think about was the discovery of a family I never thought existed. I was happy, but I had become accustomed to not showing itâ⬠(178). This is showing that ot had been making it a lot easier for Ishmael to heal from all of his horrible past again but he had not healed up all the way yet. Last but not least while Ishmael was at the United Nation Conference in New York city he had ran into a story teller named Laura Simms. After the conference she had talked to many kidsà but had found Ishmael to be very special. So when he goes back to Sierra Leone she sends him money and he moves back and she becomes his foster mom. All this had made Ishmael feel wanted and loved again. With the love that Laura had showed him and compassion it had made it easier for ishameal to clear the road block to trusting and having a good future. She had also been a good Foster mom because even though she had known the kind of struggle he had in the past she had still took him in to her safe and peaceful home. In conclusion the importance to having a family while growing up can shape your future andà who you are. Ishmael had struggled since he was twelve years old and has had four different people play a family role in his life. It was either Lieutenant Jabati who was looked on as a father figure, Esther who was looked at as a sister and a mother, Uncle Tommy who was looked at as a father figure, and last but not least Laura Simms who was looked at as a mother figure. I believe every child should live in a house with a family and food because if it wasnt for all of these friends and families he would probably not have made it to succed and be where he is now, a new person.

Ripe vs. Rife
Ripe vs. Rife Ripe vs. Rife Ripe vs. Rife By Maeve Maddox Researching banking in the Roman Empire, I read the following in a scholarly discussion of Roman tax collecting: The process was ripe with corruption and scheming. The context calls for the word rife, not ripe. The process was not ââ¬Å"ripe with corruption,â⬠but ââ¬Å"rife with corruption,â⬠that is, the process was riddled with corruption. In simplest terms, ripe conveys readiness, whereas rife conveys abundance. Ripe is related to reap. When something is ripe, it is ready to be harvested or eaten. Ripe may be used literally or figuratively: You can tell if a peach is ripe or not by a gentle, yet firm squeeze with your fingers. When the time is ripe, I myself will deal out justice in strict fairness. Rife means abundant, prevalent, or widespread. When something is rife, thereââ¬â¢s a lot of it: In the tiny community of Peyton Place, immorality was rife. Jones made his money when manufacturing opportunities were rife. Ripe is often followed by a prepositional phrase beginning with for: The field is ripe for harvest. The Worldââ¬â¢s largest Net Lease Is Ripe for A Takeover Why Commercial Real Estate Is Ripe For Disruption in 2015 Rife is often followed by a phrase that begins with the preposition with: Judicial Races Now Rife With Politics Nursing Profession Rife with Occupational Hazards Congress Rife With Gridlock and Partisanship Rife is frequently used in a negative context, but it can also be used to denote the abundance of something positive, like opportunities. Here are some examples of the misuse of ripe and rife on the Web, with corrections: Incorrect: Menââ¬â¢s health industry ripe with content marketing opportunities Correct : Menââ¬â¢s health industry rife with content marketing opportunities Correct : Menââ¬â¢s health industry ripe for content marketing opportunities Incorrect: Myanmar is ripe with Economic Opportunities Correct : Myanmar is rife with Economic Opportunities Correct : Myanmar is ripe for Economic Opportunities Incorrect: The commission uncovered an industry ripe with corruption and unjustifiable rates. Correct : The commission uncovered an industry rife with corruption and unjustifiable rates. Incorrect: The industry is ripe with challenges, but it is also ripe with opportunity. Correct : The industry is rife with challenges, but it is also ripe for opportunity. Want to improve your English in five minutes a day? Pros of technology in society Term Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2250 words
Pros of technology in society - Term Paper Example However, human have normal tendencies of failures and shortcomings due to imperfection and limitations. Legal and ethical aspects of computer technology were not able to keep up with the rapid race of technology, that tend to create social, legal and ethical concerns that considered important aspects of our lives. Even then, this paper will discuss that technology being weighed against its cons, is still considerably a blessing to human society. Technology: A Blessing Introduction The worldââ¬â¢s lifestyles have always undergone change. Largely because technology has sparked a continuous revolution that had a profound effect on human society. What was innovative in yesterday is redundant today, and what is trendy today will be obsolete tomorrow. However, rapid changes on technology have a marked impact in the business world, medical advances, education field, and social life, as well. Imagine having at your fingertips a collection of literature that would rival some of the worldâ â¬â¢s greatest libraries. Imagine millions of articles and similar items from thousands of books, magazines, newspapers, and other works that would fit on your desk. Students and educators benefited a lot. Even medical researchers can assimilate updated information at a glance. Imagine the comfort and convenience of electronic emails to business entities. Aside from the convenience and comfort, this advancement on technology creates a productive human society. But despite of these benefits on advancing technology, legal and ethical aspects of the internet are not able to keep pace with rapid revolution of technology that tend to create social, legal and ethical concerns that deals with ââ¬Å"protection of intellectual property, prevention of fraud, protection of freedom of expression versus problems of defamation, protection of privacy, control of internet indecency versus free speech, and control of spammingâ⬠(ââ¬Å"Study Guide: Legal and Ethical Aspectsâ⬠, n.d, intr oduction section, para.1). Likewise, an article entitled ââ¬Å"Social and ethical issues in computer scienceâ⬠(n.d), described computer technology as a double-edged sword because of the technological issues on potential dilemma of loss of privacy and theft besides its significant industrial revolution (p.2). Absolutely, there is no perfect technology. Since, the rapid computer revolution has overtaken the development of legal and ethical aspects that supposed to guide the application of computer innovations, there are only few clear rules that govern ethical computer behavior. Therefore, Computer and Information Ethics, or computer ethics, in a more specific term, is being designated as the branch of applied ethics that studies and analyzes social and ethical impacts of information and communication technology, and may also refer to kind of professional ethics wherein computer professionals apply standards of good practice within their profession (Computer and Information ethi cs, 2008). However, despite the risk that technology offers, at present, the main thrust of research` seems to focus on continuous improvement of technology that is already available. Most often, successive steps in technology are revolutionary and bring improvements that are hundreds of times better. Technical Issues According to Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy (2008), American scholar Norbert Wiener was the founder of the new branch of applied science of ââ¬Å"cyberneticsâ⬠in the mid 1940s, which is now known to us as ââ¬Å"
